Recently I’ve updated two albums in my gallery; the popular album “Lunersee Panoramas” and the other album “Panoramas“. The first album I’ve updated with 3 new panoramas of the Lunersee that I made last October. All three photos are taken from a complete different angle than the already posted panoramas, thus giving you a broader view of this fantastic and beautiful lake. The other album is updated with the panoramas in made in England which I had already posted on my blog.

The editors of the Nikon Club Nederland Magazine asked me somewhere in September whether I was interested to publish a photo in the centerfold of the December issue. The topic is called ‘Uitvergroot’ (translated: Magnified) and is for members of Nikon Club Nederland only. Ofcourse I was interested, I had just joined this club and was very honered! I wasn’t allowed to tell anybody about the publication though, nor show anyone the photo, so it would be stay surprise.
But now I am allowed to tell and show, since the December issue arrived in my mailbox yesterday. I therefore proudly present to you my second publication! (click to view larger)

A surprise for me was that a (high-key) photo someone had taken of me during a workshop in November was also published in this issue. As you can see (after trying to be a model) I tried to make a self portrait using my wireless remote.

Just a quick message to let you know that I’ve just uploaded my latest series: “Totnes High Street”. I’ve made the photos in November when I was in Totnes (Devon, England) for 6 days to visit my friend Leonie. Below a preview of 3 photos, please visit the album here to view the complete series.

Yes, a third photo of mine has been chosen as Photo of the Day on Earthshots.org! This time it’s my shot of the Butcher I made in Tunisia last August. Some of the comment on the website said I gave a bit too much information about the smell when I made the photo, but also welcomed the different kind of photo for a time. :)

The last 2 years I’ve been changing the fundamentals this website a lot: I’ve moved my blog to a different folder, I’ve added a gallery, I integrated Wordpress for the frontpage and I made a text blog for the latest news. This all has had consequence for the feed/RSS settings, and it’s possible that although you have subscribed for my website before, you might not recieve any updates.
Therefore I would like to ask you (for the last time) to please change or add the following RSS feed in your feedreader: http://feeds.feedburner.com/lauravink.
I’ll ensure you that, when I get another crazy idea in the future, you will never have to change this anymore, but you will still get all the updates! And for those who haven’t subscribed yet, make sure you do, to always recieve the latest updates and news. Oh, and I would almost forget to mention that it’s also possible to get the latest news delivered by mail now.
Thanks.

Most of the time I’m the one with the camera in my hands. But sometimes, I dare to stand in front of it. In July me and my friend Veronie (my favorite ‘model’) were invited together with 5 other girls for a ‘Local models’ photoshoot. Local models is a initiative of two Dutch photographers: Lawrence Mooij and Michel Beskers. Together, they make you a model for a day.
As their logan says: ‘It’s a unique experience’ and I can only say that is so true! The photoshoot was in a old, abandoned factory. It was dirty, wet and plants were growing inside, but it was a great location for a photoshoot with amazing light. The photographers made a nice and clean dressing room for us, and after we got changed, our hair and make-up was done by a professional. With the use of some hair extensions, I suddenly had lots of amazing curly hair!
Although I felt like a model a bit after my hair and make-up was done, I think I felt a bit uncomfortable at first, trying also to be and act like a model. But the photographers made me feel comfortable and gave advice in were to stand, how to stand, were to look, etc. We had several shoots with different clothing, different place in the building and different light set ups. Moreover, the nice thing is that both photographers have a very different style, resulting in unique photos.
This are some of the photos that were made that day of me and Veronie, and I’m think they are fantastic ! Lawrence and Michiel, thanks again for the great day.
Do you want to be a model for a day, together with your friends, and get great professional photos? Check out the website Localmodels for more information!

Big news: I’m now officially a freelance photographer! Two weeks ago I visited the ‘Kamer van Koophandel’ and registered my company ‘Laura Vink Fotografie’! Hooray!
To be honest, I hadn’t really planned it for months for me to do this. After my holiday to Tunisia I was just wondering whether it would give me any benefits or just more costs (with taxes and everything), and decided to figure that out. I bought a book ‘Handboek Freelancen 2008/2009‘, read a whole lot of it, tried to remember what I learned in economics at high school and concluded in the end that it would cost me a bit, but it would give me even more.
So that’s how it happened, and a simple visited to the Kamer van Koophandel was enough. What happened after the registration is that I made a completely new (Dutch) website that you should definitely check out: http://lauravinkfotografie.nl. The first photoshoots are already booked, exciting!

A second photo of mine has been chosen as noteworthy on Photofriday, hooray! This is the photo I had submitted for the School challenge. I took this photo somewhere in February 2008, while I was doing volunteerwork in Chamazi, Tanzania, where we also visited a Primary School.
The boy is paying attention to the teacher in front of the class. The light conditions in the classrooms where horrible to take pictures, so I had to shoot at ISO 800. This caused some noise, but together with the Black and white conversion, I think it really fits the image.
I’ve posted more photos of the school on my blog. In case you are interested, you can view them here.

O
ut of 179 submissions, my image reached (again) the top 15 in the VFXY Weekly Theme, now for the theme Antique, which is making me very proud to be honest. I had submitted the photo ‘The lamppost‘, which I took in April 2007 in Paris. The photo was taken at Place de la Concorde in Paris, and was shot through a fountain. The spots in this shot is thus the falling water.
The funny thing is that I can’t actually remember taking this photo, and I only discovered it in my archives last May. I guess I didn’t think it was interesting when I went through my files in 2007, but now I really really like it!

This is my niece Lara Bongers, the daughter of my boyfriends sister Brenda. Lara is born today (11th August 2009) at 5:15am. She weighs 4100gram, is 51cm long, has 10 fingers, 10 toes and is healthy! These photo were taken at approximately 12:00, thus when she was almost 7 hours old.

(Click on the images to view them bigger)
Visit Lara’s beautiful website (larabongers.nl) to see more of her. The website also contains quite some photo’s I made, like Brenda’s photoshoot with Sienna in the studio -I’ve published a series of 5 black and white photos today of this photoshoot in the gallery- but also photos I made of the bellypaint. The bellypaint was designed by Lara’s dad Rick and is the same as the theme of the website (which he made himself too). The first image will also be printed on the birthcard.
I wasn’t allowed to publish them yet -it would have spoiled the surprise of the website- but now I’m allowed to show them, so here they are. =)

Hi there! From now on my website is running on a new server at a new webhosting provider. I used to be very happy with the previous one, until the unexplainable outages in May and June and the providers bad communication to me (or maybe better: the lack of communication). Although everything seemed to be working fine again, the damage was already done and I had been looking for a new provider since then.
And I found a new one, named Antagonist. Lots of good reviews, and instead of paying 50 euro’s for 350MB and 10G bandwith, I’m now paying 24 euros for 3000mb webspace and 60gig bandwith. That’s about 9x more webspace for only half of the price! :D
Anyway, because of the move it might be possible that some things ain’t working yet as it should be. If you find an error, please let me know either in the comment of this message or use the contact page. Thanks in advance.

I sometimes submit one of my photos for the VFXY Photo Weekly Theme. Last weeks theme was Hairdo, and I submitted the image of Veronie with her wild hair. Of the 131 photos submitted, mine ended up in the top 15. :) Credits for her ‘hairdo’ go to
Haarstudio Gerald in Winterswijk.

Last week I had posted a series of IR lanscape photos on Dutchphotozone.com. A lot of great photographers are active on this forum and the quality of work that is shown there is most often high. Therefore I’m very proud that my photo Road to Nowhere was chosen for ‘Uitgelicht’ (translated to English this sort of means ‘in the picture’) and is now one of the photos that is shown on the front page of the forum.
